Surgical experience

One question which parents may want to ask is "How many of these operations have you performed?" Often, the surgeon does not know the exact answer, and must guess an approximation.
Here is a table listing diseases alphabetically, and by clicking on the condition of interest, you will jump to a table showing which operations I have perfomed for that condition, and the number of times I have carried out each procedure. You can move through the list using the links at the bottom of the table.

Some of the procedures may not appear directly related to the conditions. This is because the condition listed is the original disease which led to the patient's illnesss. For example, in the condition "acute appendicitis with generalised peritonitis", the operation of "closure of colostomy" appears. Obviously, this is not an operation for appendicitis, but it was a procedure performed for one patient whose original illness was appendicitis.
The other potential problem in understanding this data is that I list only one procedure per patient. Therefore if a patient has three procedures during one operation, only the first will be shown here. So, for example, if a child has a splenectomy and a cholcystectomy as one operation, this data will only show one of these procedures.
I hope to put together some pages of outcome of surgery soon, but right now you can jump to my oesophageal atresia survival page here.
