Figure 14.  Expression of IL2Ra chains on NK cells and T cells
A. Immature NK cells in IL2 F. NK line 1608b in IL2
B. Immature NK cells in IL15 G. NK line I2/22 in IL2
H. CD4 T cells in IL2
D. Mature NK cells in IL2 I. CD8 T cells in IL2
E. Mature NK cells in IL15 J. CTLL2 in IL2
The cells described were stained with medium [black] or biotin-conjugated anti-IL2Ra mAb [red]
followed by Alexa Fluor 647 streptavidin.
Conclusions
1.  In agreement with the finding of IL2Ra mRNA in NK cells, both immature and mature NK cells
were found to express detectable levels of IL2Ra at the cell surface
2.  However, the levels expressed by freshly obtained NK cells in culture are low, being about one
tenth of the levels found on CD4 and CD8 ConA-induced blasts, and about hundredth of the levels
expressed on CTLL2 cells.
3.  They were also only detectable on freshly obtained NK cells when these were grown in IL15.
4.  By contrast, the established NK cell lines I22/22 and 1608b expressed readily detectable levels
of surface IL2Ra chains even when grown in IL2.
