'Smith and Lawrence gel together like Glover and Gibson but with added wit.'

Starring: Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Tea Leoni

Director: Michael Bay

Story

Marcus (Lawrence) and Mike (Smith) are partners in the Miami vice squad and they are assigned to a case which has threatened the closure of their department by internal affairs if not solved within 48 hours. Someone has infiltrated the police compound and stole $100 million worth of heroine. A case related murder has taken place and there is an eye witness (Leoni) who calls the police but will only testify and agree to police protection provided she deals with Mike whom she knows is trustworthy through her deceased pal. In the meatime Mike is rendered unconcious and knowing that they will lose their vital witness Marcus is forced to meet Julie in the character of his partner, the cool, sophisticated, rich, batchelor Mike who has a bit of a way with the ladies. This then means that Mike has to take on the paternal role and husband duties of the bumbling Marcus to add to the authenticity of the proceedings and they have to keep this up or risk losing their witness, their department and their jobs. Once the villians realise that someone can blow the whistle on them they try to pull out all the stops and exterminate Julie which is when the action hots up and we are treated to lots of gunfire, an ever increasing body count and numerous big explosions.

Verdict

It's basically Lethal Weapon with the added twist of the identity changes which adds to the hilarity of it all. But it works well as Smith and Lawrence gel together like Glover and Gibson but with added wit. It's funny to see Lawrence struggle to come to terms with the lifestyle, lingo and coolness of playboy Mike whereas Mike himself settles quite nicely into Marcus' home to the point where Marcus thinks that he is having an affair with his wife. The plot is far fetched but it becomes incedental because as the action hots up it takes over and engulfs the entire movie providing gunfire and explosions to keep you satified until the sequel, or at least the next Lethal Weapon film.
