Course Requirements
Marks for the course will be based on three equally weighted pieces
of work:
-
Two extended essays (3,500-4,500 words each), one each term, on topics
suggested by you in consultation with me. For each essay you will be expected
to draw on the primary sources for the course, on other primary sources
as necessary, and on extensive secondary reading. Tutorials will be held
to discuss possible topics, and later in the semester to discuss progress
and problems, if desired.
-
One 3-hour unseen written examination, taken in the assessment period of
Semester Two. You will be required to comment on extracts from documents
(some studied in the course, some not), and to write two essays.
It is a course requirement that students attend all seminars, having read
the primary sources and selections from the secondary sources assigned,
participate in the discussion, and make at least one seminar presentation.
