You got as far as this page eh? Gosh, you must be bored! :)

Photography

I've enjoyed photography for years (it's quite similar to microscopy in my mind). My father got me into photography at a very early age. I've had SLRs since I was about 11, and stuck with cheap ones since that was all I could afford! Since then I've had one Ricoh and two Zeniths, and still have my last Zenith X10. Once digital SLRs came down in price to be affordable, I splashed out on a cheapish one. They have made digital photography almost as good as traditional film, with the added bonuses of ease of viewing, editing and distribution.

I post a lot of my work on Flickr, mostly just for friends and family who are further afield to see our children growing up. Some of my photos are for general viewing though, and if you're interested, they can be seen here. I generally like fairly traditional stuff, such as plants and sunsets, but there are other subjects too. Some examples from these two sets are shown here:

I also post some slightly science related pictures on there too, as I enjoy playing with them. Here's a few examples:

Woodwork/ Carpentry

Woodwork consumes a lot of my time, especially in winter when I don't have so many outdoor activities to occupy my time. I particularly enjoy working with oak- it's relatively local and hard enough to make working easy yet not to hard to be impossible to cut by hand. Recent constructions have been a bed frame, and the year before that a set of tables for the living room and a desk and shelving for the study. Again, my Flickr page has images of some of these.

Other activities

As a family, we spend a lot of time working (well, mostly playing in my daughters' case!) on our allotment, where we grow a huge variety of vegetables. It's very rewarding, but it does tend to eat into our free time for other activities, especially in spring.
When we have time, we take the girls walking and swimming at weekends, and camping for our holidays.
We make our own homebrew wines, especially in autumn, with the crops of apples, pears and elderberries. I also make beer, usually IPA type styles, with a few darker ones (more like an 80/-) now and again.
If I had the time, I would enjoy my motorbike more (currently a BMW F650GS), but these days it only tends to get used for commuting, and the odd short ride on a weekend.
