THE ARTHURIAN LEGEND

The general aim of this module is to trace the development of the Arthurian legend from its origins in early Dark Age Britain to perceptions of it on our own time. Within this general study, there will be a particular emphasis on two themes:

• Disentanglement of the essence of the Arthurian story from additions made to it over the enturies.

• The interrelationships of adultery, wasteland, and Grail quest within the essential story, and interpretations of these elements at various stages in the development of the legend.
