1. Novel methods to control spoilage microbes- Industry funding in collaboration with Dr. Jeremy Barnes, Univ of Newcastle. Work currently involves three postgraduates and EC Marie Curie student (Eva Tallentire, Chris Malkin, Nikos Tzortzakis and Mercedes Pedrano).
2. Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with JLA (Ripponden). Novel uses of zone to control microorganisms. (2006-2009)
3. NERC CASE PhD studentship with Astra Zeneca and University of Nottingham (2004-2007). Ecotoxicogenomics of yeast. Student : Louise Pease. Collaborators : Ian Head (Newcastle), Jason Snape (Astra Zeneca). Simon Avery (Nottingham).
4. BBSRC studentship (2004-2007): Microbial transformations of selenium. Main supervisor : Clive Butler (Newcastle). PhD student : Liz Lowe

7. Potential use of DNA adducts to monitor bioavailability of carcinogenic compounds in soil - Funded by NERC CONNECT A and University of Newcastle. Work is being carried out by myself in collaboration with Dr. Brett Lyons, CEFAS, Lowestoft, UK, 2001-2002
8. Chemical and biological methods of assessing bioavailability of PAHs in soil. NERC funded postgraduate - Zoe Keatinge. Collaboration with Dr. Faith Williams, Newcastle (Med Faculty), Dr. Andy Whiteley, CEH, Oxford. 2002-2005
9. Bioremediation of construction and demolition waste - Funded by EPSRC. Postdoctoral worker involved : Selina Bamforth. This project is looking at potential biological and chemical methods to detoxify high pH construction waste. Collaboration with Prof David Manning, Newcastle, Tarmac, BRE, University of Manchester. 2001-2003
