My consultancy, conducted alongside others in the geodesy group, includes continuous (subsidence/compaction) monitoring of offshore platforms for the oil and gas industry and CPD courses for GPS surveyors and surveyors working in the offshore industry.

• Continuous offshore platform monitoring using GPS

   

  •  The School of Civil Engineering and Geoscience currently monitors platforms in the North Sea for Shell Exploration and Production (UK) and for BP in the Caspian Sea. Global Positioning System data are used to determine the antenna position every twenty four hours with a precision of 1-2 cm
  •  8-10 large contracts and dozens of smaller ones, ~£800k total value since 2001

  •  Courses in Least Squares for the offshore industry, in conjunction with Fugro
