About the Society

Consett Philatelic Society is said to date back to the 1920's, though the records of the society prior to 1983 have been lost. In the early years the society's meetings were held in member’s homes, until the 1950's when membership increased substantially, reaching a peak of between 30 and 40.

Hartington School was used for meetings during the 1950s until the society ceased in 1960. The society restarted in 1968 with meeting in the Britannia Hotel, and later premises included a room over Mr. Montixi's Stamp Shop until 1975. Consett technical College became the venue until the move to new Citizens House on Station Road in 1980.

Meetings

Meetings are held in Citizens House, Station Road, Consett at 7.00pm on the first and third Wednesdays from September to April and the first Wednesday only from May to August
