Interacting with the Images

The Video Rat Stack is a black & white HyperCard stack interfacing to a high quality colour Laser Video Disc (the Rat Anatomy Resource Disc) to provide a complete learning environment as an alternative or supplement to performing a rat dissection.

Broadcast quality video is displayed on a separate television (PAL) monitor alongside the computer screen.

Moving the pointer over the image on the computer screen causes the video disc monitor to update the video to show the structure under the pointer and Annotations and Balloon Help to appear.

Figure 2. The video updates to show the structure under the pointer as the pointer is moved around on the computer screen, else it defaults to the same image as the computer screen.

Dissecting the Rat

Clicking on part of an image blackens the computer screen while a short dissection sequence (appropriate to where the learner clicked) is shown on the video monitor. The program pauses again and a copy of the current video images appears on the computer screen readay for the learner to interact with it. In this way the learner 'dissects' the rat.

Type of Link

An icon indicating whether a dissection, diagram or histology slide will be shown if a learner clicks on the annotated structure appears in the title area. If no tool appears, nothing will happen if the learner clicks the mouse at that spot.
