Titanium and vanadium salen
complexes 1 and 2 developed within my group in
collaboration with Professor
Yuri Belokon of the Nesmeyanov
Institute of Organoelement Chemistry in Moscow are now being
commercialised by Avecia (now part of Piramal Pharma) under the trademark
CACHyTM (Catalysts for Asymmetric CyanoHydrin sYnthesis). The
complexes catalyse the asymmetric addition of a range of different cyanide
sources to aldehydes and ketones to give enantiomerically enriched
cyanohydrins (Schemes 1-3). More
