Simple Answers

If dimer 10.30 was less stable than dimers 10.28 and 10.29, then only the enantiomeric dimers 10.28 and 10.29 would be formed. The ratio of dimers 10.28 and 10.29 will then be identical to the R / S ratio of the monomers, and there will be no opportunity for a non-linear effect to occur. Thus, the enantiomeric excess of the product would be proportional to the enantiomeric excess of the catalyst.
