2D explanations

The polymer will be optically active. This is an example of the triad unit shown in Figure 4.4d. The two stereocentres of specified absolute configuration ensure that the polymer will not be racemic, whilst the randomness of the configuration of the third stereocentre ensures that the polymer will not be a meso compound. Thus a chiral, optically active polymer is produced.
