3D explanations
The only chiral molecule in Chapter 3 which contains any symmetry element
other than the identity element is compound 3.29. Thus, all of the
other compounds belong to point group C1. Compound 3.29
contains a C2 axis as shown below. The rotating 3D structure
may help in visualizing this. Hence, compound 3.29 belongs to point
group C2, and all of the chiral molecules in Chapter
3 belong to either a Cn or a Dn point
group.
