Timesharing Unix Machines.

Users could login from machines in their office or home
(via the dialup service, see elsewhere).
To support this service there were three interactive access machines
and two background servers.

leaps1 was a batch job server.
If a user wanted to run a job
that was going to take a long time
they could submit it to the leaps machines
via the dnqs. (Distributed Network Queuing System.)
