More Blockwork

Setting Out

It was on Friday that we discovered that the foundations were wrong.
On Monday we worked at finding out how much wrong, Pythagorus (582BC - 496BC Greek) theorem
that the square on the side opposite the right angle of a triangle
is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides
was used again and again as we tried to fit the footprint of the house on blockwork on the foundations.

Foundation Repair

But to no avail, the foundations were wrong too much.
The string is where the outside of the brickwork that sits on the blockwork has to be.
As you can see, it is not on the concrete foundation.
We called in Malcolm the architect, who contacted the building inspector
who by luck was in Wide Open just a mile away and came over.
Malcolm had to leave before he came, but a solution was decided.
A new foundation trench would be dug and be tied in to the 1.4m deep foundation,
that still needed 100mm of concrete to bring it up to height, with steel re-enforcement mesh.

Building inspector comes tomorrow morning, concrete delivered 2pm, fingers crossed.
