On Friday we finished with a problem, some of the logs were cut wrong.
Today came a solution. In the delivery is a few XTRA logs. The solution is to
cut off the wrong end and simply butt join a good end of an Xtra log.
Although it weakens the structure, there is a complete complement of pegs,
the crossover joint is still there, the tongue and grooves are still engaged,
and the two threaded steel rods will still be clamping the corner together.
And after all the logs are not load bearing in the house, unlike the garage,
they are just the weatherproof cladding.

This cutting off a bad end.

Here is the butt joint in the top log.

This is a view from a standard spot, only makes sense by comparing it with previous
shots from the same spot. (Next to the chicken pen.)

A different view up the side of the house, past the front door, towards the road.
The scaffolding around the garage has been removed, I only asked Redhead Roofing this morning,
explaining we had a delivery tomorrow and would like it gone. Thanks Stephen (of Redheads).
The other thing to note is that almost all the logs have been erected.

Another thing I did today was to cut off the excess of the wall straps in the garage,
(Darren and Gill's Christmas present of a Black & Decker electric saw was a real boon.
Doing it by a hand hacksaw would have taken an age and been very tiring. But the Black & Decker
cut the 30x5 galv ms straps in seconds.) Then I packed wood between the straps and the logs
and screwed them together.
The reason for doing this now is that tomorrow the garage will be filled with wood,
and we would not be able to strap it down for months.
Delivery day tomorrow, snow is forecast :-(.
