Up to first floor

By the time I got there they were manhandling the 230Kg beam in to place.
To begin with they got the South end on to a temporary support and were lifting the North end.

They got it on to a temporary support in the middle of the house.

Then it was slid forward and lifted on to the middle support.

Here is the North end with temporary bits of wood nailed to the North support to guide it to position.

Finally the lift on to the South support. It was then secured in to place with face plates and brackets.

In all the hammering and battering the North and South walls had bowed outwards.
So a web was looped about the north and south face and connected by a tensioning strap to pull them tight.

By the end of the day the east side first floor joists were in place but not fixed.
The sun had not set, the temperature was falling, but still they worked on the west side floor joists.
We will see tommorrow how far they got.
