Quite warm overnight, but overcast first thing. Awoke at 4am worrying about the crane lift of the ridge timbers,
and who I have to contact today: Chelmer, GHI, scaffolding firm (should have been yesterday)
quote from another electrician, how does the flue from the wood stove clear the floor joists, ...
I got up at about 6am for a cup of tea to take back to bed. Found Ramon up having breakfast,
he is a student from the Phillipines staying with us for 6 weeks. Never seen him in morning before
little wonder. We hear the Finns getting up at about 7am and pull the duvet up around our ears.
The Finns start work at first light, which is when we get up.

A steady light drizzle greeted the day and stayed for hours. But they just shrugged it off and worked.

About midday the scaffolders arrived, Gary, with his back to us is in charge, and after a meal break set to.
Those scaffold poles are not light.

Their poor wheel barrow. It is not very old but really battered, they drop couplings to it from a great height.

And then Ken arrives from James Burrel building merchants with twenty 8' x 4' boards.
In the middle of that Norman from Dowse Crane Hire turns up, that is him on the left.

Kimmo gets the boards up to the first floor joists and begins work on making the roof.
He has got the eaves beam up, a significant noticeable, addition,
meanwhile Matti is working away erecting ground floor timber frame, unnoticed.

Whilst all this was going on, I had to go around the doing this and that,
and narrowly missed the scaffolding with my head. I needed a hard hat.
Went and got one, could not resist the high visibility coat and the grippy gloves.
Tony thinks I look like a Senior Planning Officer, he does not approve.
I don't care, the hard hat has already hit the scaffolding, it could have been my head!

This is the SE standard view. Scaffolding half done, a lot more inside done, you cannot see it.
I have had to spread another bag of wood chippings over the clay/mud getting walked on
because the scaffolding is going up on the hardcore around the house.
