Busy Working

At last the Finns are gone, Tony is off skiing, and John is gone until Tony comes back.
So Margie and I have the house - our house - to ourselves for a while.

Today is Thursday, both yesterday and today Margie and I have been busy working installing insulation.
I have been working downstairs, in a howling gale, putting insulation in the Utility Room
because we need to have a wall to fix the electricity meter and the water stopcock.
That blue pipe is the mains water

This means installing the insulation, 150mm of rock wool, sealing with a hermetic layer of plastic,
then covering with a plywood or woodchip panel sufficient to support a meter,
then a finishing layer of plaster board, which can be skimmed with plaster and eventually decorated.

Whilst I am working downstairs in a howling gale Margie is working upstairs
in the calm of the roof space.
She has installed, and enjoyed doing it, all that vertical insulation that you can see.

The insulation is 600mm wide (and 1200mm long).
The gaps between the house frame uprights is hardly ever 600mm.
(When it is, Oh! bliss, lift and fit, no cut, no waste.)
So generally there are offcuts which we are looking to use somewhere.
Using the offcuts gives great satisfaction

Unfortunately we found that the doors delivered yesterday were damaged.
Not so they would not work, but quite at odds with the otherwise superb finish.
We have informed the agent of Artichouse and await what they have to say.
(I mean, basically, the way the doors were packaged was asking for trouble.
It is surprising they arrived with such little damage.)

Eighteen packs of insulation, costing 400 odd pounds, are on order for delivery tommorrow.
Nicola of Sheffield Insulation assured me there would be no problem.
My fear is there will be.
