My Birthday, I'm 66.

Last update was Saturday when went to Newcastle to update the blog because we had no Internet access,
because BT had failed to transfer our telephone line.
Margie phoned BT at 11:45, Fault Report Service busy, left mobile phone number,
BT will call back in 45 minutes.

They didn't,
Margie telephones again at 12:45.
Told no longer a fault because the line has been ceased
Transferred to Sales Department 0800 800 150,
from there to Broadband Home Movers Department
and from there to Delayed Provision Department where she left a mobile phone number,
and was told we were categorized as a KCI customer.
(Keep Customer Informed category.)

Sunday we did not telephone the fault line.

Monday, Spring Bank Holiday we did not telephone them, but they phoned us,
"to say we would be connected within 24 hours." Oh joy!

Tuesday 30th May 2006, phone BT at 11:15. Usual, after talking to half a dozen people, it will be fixed. It isn't.
Margie phones at 17:45. Nashmi, Fault Homemovers where Carol will put me through to engineers,
please stay on-line, when get message too late in the day.

09:25 Wednesday, telephone BT, they are busy, they will call back.
09:45 got a phone back, talked to human, told to telephone addressing department on 0800 012 1157.
Cannot get in without a valid PIN number.
10:05 Start again, 0800 800 151, loads of key pressing, finally get to everyone busy, will call you back.
At 12:30 get a call to my mobile, they will send a person out to do a survey in about a week!
That is two weeks with no telephone/Internet access.
Then, today Thursday, a telephone call from BT to my mobile to say that an engineer will come on Saturday morning.

This is Armstrong (hardware) Ltd store, Wide Open. Must give them a plug, they are so good to us.

Surprise, surprise, today Paul turned up, he had a delayed job. He has come to install our flue.

Here he is sealing the lead-flashing to the flue.
This is something we have been really waiting for.
There is a day's worth of work now before we call the plasterers in.
Then begin to decorate and fit out the new house

This is the Topping Out Ceremony, the highest point has been built.

The other thing that had to be done is to connect the soil pipe vent to the ridge tile vent.
This is something Mick the plumber should have done, but didn't, and now he is on holiday
so I had to do it. Not pretty, but will do the job.

Now it is Friday 2nd June 2006. Tomorrow I will go to Newcastle and update the blog.
Yesterday and today I have been laying boards on the floor to make the place safe for the plasterers.
Most of the floor will be covered by Stirling Boards, (8ft by 4ft by 11mm thick chip boards).
But there are places where they do not fit or would need cutting, so I have cut and fitted
the sauna boarding we got from Martin and Xanthe.

Whilst I was doing that, Margie has been treating the interior windows and doors with
OSMO Polyx - Oil. It is really for wood floors, but will protect the wood from the plasterers.
Today was a gorgeous sunny warm day, seems like start of Summer.

At last there is movement. The flue going up was the log jammimg things up.
On Monday Tony and John will return and install the window sills, box in the flue,
and help us lift the 8'x 4' boards upstairs.
