Almost Two Weeks.

25th August 2006. Almost two weeks since updated blog.

Sorry about that if you have been looking, but the blog is heavily structured around photographs
and as it has just been floor board going down and wall cladding being fixed
a new bit of floorboard/cladding is much like the last. Not much to photograph.

One thing that did happen is that we got the plumber in to connect the Under Floor Heating Pipes
that we had laid to the manifolds so that the chippys could fix the floor boards neatly around them.

This is the first floor manifold. It has 7 loops, downstairs it is only 4 loops.
We queried this with Chelmer Heating, who designed the system,
because we thought we would not need heating upstairs.

They explained that downstairs the pipework was surrounded by a pug that made each loop more effective,
whereas upstairs there was no pug so more pipework was required. We were not convinced,
but they insisted that this was their design and would not give it their support unless done this way.

So we have done it their way. We can always turn the underfloor heating OFF upstairs if it is there,
but cannot turn it ON if it isn't. And this home will be here after we are gone, it is not just our house.

As Tony and John have been laying flooring, Margie and I have been treating the wood.
It is an oil and wax liquid that sinks into the wood, not a coating like varnish or paint.
This is a picture of the Living/Dining room partly done with a first coat by Margie.
When you are doing it it is very difficult to see where you have and have not done.

This floor was 60 rows of floorboards, at least two pieces per row, over 12 floor joists, 720 nails.
The wall cladding is 93 pieces, 3 nails per piece, 279 nails, 999 nails

John and Tony are away for a very long weekend, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
Bank Holiday Monday, they do not work in a bank holiday, so why off? Tony has money in a bank!
