A Week Gone By.

Bits and pieces getting done.

We are working on smoothing, with the finest sand paper, and treating all the woodwork.
This is a detail of the woodwork around two doors close together at right angles.
There is a door frame on the left and one on the right each set in a wall with a surround about each.
All crunched together so that the woodwork is a craftman's creation.
(That carpet and underfelt is just temporary cover to the finished wood floor whilst builders are around.)

The plumbers have started their second fix. Bathroom, underfloor heating upstairs, still much to do

The other thing that has begun is the new entrance. That is David on the left and Graham on the right.

On Friday 29th September they had finished the West part of the entrance.
This included an arched pedestrian gateway. Although I knew roughly what we wanted,
the exact position of the gate opening and the end brick pillar really depended on just how the brickwork panned out
In the end it was 5 brick wall to 4 brick gateway to 1 brick wall and two brick buttress.

I cleaned a thousand bricks from the old wall, they are not like modern bricks, they are all slightly different
in colour and size, so it is more difficult for the bricklayer.
The result is a work of art. I hope others notice it, but then I hope they don't,
because if they don't, it blends in with the existing brickwork so well.
I notice it. Thankyou Graham.

Unfortunately, Graham wrenched his back adjusting the 50Kg capstone, and did not appear on Saturday.

So the rebuilding of the far side of the entrance may be delayed.

There is a whole lot of things to do, and this depends on that, and that depends on that, and that ...

Most importantly we have to get the electrical installation of the Chelmer underfloor heating system done.
So that the Ground Water Heat Pump can be installed.
