A Gate at Last

Before the gate came the 5th November.
We have been waiting for this because we had a pile of scrap wood,
and the planning permission said no bonfires on the building site. But it is Guy Fawkes night ...

.. and Margie is a pyromaniac.

On Monday the 6th, John of Appealing Steel turned up to install our gate, a week late,
but better late than never. On Monday they just laid the wires and circuitry ready for Tuesday.

Whilst they were doing that Margie grouted the wetroom floor.
You can see we have done the left and right side.
The grout sets within 30 minutes so you can only do a bit at a time,
Margie is now working her way down the centre to the door.
It is a time consuming laborious job. She is much better than me at it.

Next day three turned up from Apealing Steel to install the gate.
In the middle is John the gaffer, to the left is HEIKO and on the right is AINAR,
they are Estonian students on work experience.

The control circuitry is in the box with the motor and pinion that engages with toothed rail under the gate.
It is complicated and much time is spent programming it. I have to read the manual!

Whilst they were installing the gate Margie and I were cutting and treating the wood
that clad the gate. It was the same wood as clad the house.
Here at 6 minutes past 6 is the gate. The metal is galvanised and needs painting
but we have a zapper in the car that remotely causes it to open and close.

The remotely controlled gate and garage door are my retirement objectives.

The house beyond is beyond my wildest expectations.

Wednesday 8th November we begin moving house.
Tomorrow, two big young guys from Budget Removals
move the heavy stuff that is too much for us old age pensioners.
But we will move the rest, Margie has a sack barrow load here.

This is Margie putting stuff from the kitchen in the Cottage to drawers in the Lodge.
(The carpet will go after we move in, it is just to protect the wood floor during the move.)

I cooked the evening meal in the Lodge today, but we will sleep in The Cottage tonight for the last time.

End of blog

Thankyou for reading it,
it has been useful to record what was/is where
and will be useful in the future
(not all the photographs taken are in the blog)
I will write the whole lot to a CD and save it to a central file server
for whoever might live in this house after us.
