Brunton Bridge

QUIT PREVIOUS NEXT

Brunton Road crosses the Ouse Burn over Brunton Bridge, this is the upstream side.

Brunton Road is a simple two lane road, but quite busy.

This is the downstream side, the Ouse Burn has entered The Great North Park.
As it crosses the Park to the A1 it has large flood plains on either side,
and two small bridges.

On the upstream/west side of the bridge parapet is an engraved stone
BRUNTON BRIDGE, 1885, with a BENCHMARK where surveyers could position an angle iron
to form a "bench" for a levelling rod to measure the height above sea level.
