3 mile bridge

The Great North Road crosses the Ouse Burn at the Three Mile Bridge, 3 miles north of Newcastle.
Nearby is the Three Mile Inn, popular for Sunday Lunches. This is the upstream side.

The Great North Road is a dual carraigeway, it used to be the A1 trunk road.
Then in 1968 the Eastern Bypass was opened crossing the River Tyne by the Tyne Tunnel when it
became the A1, and the Great North Road became the B1318.
The Newcastle Western Bypass was opened in 1990 and became the A1
then the Eastern Bypass became the A19.

This is the downstream side of the crossing. Note there is another crossing of the Ouse Burn under it,
another pipe, it is the 61st crossing of the Ouseburn.
