Airport Metro bridge

QUIT PREVIOUS NEXT

The railway bridge taking the Metro to Newcastle Airport is the most massive so far over the burn.
Here it enters the tunnel on the right. On the left is a cattle/farm access under the railway.

The METRO was extended to the Airport in 1991.

This is the METRO dual track railway line on top.

This is the exit of the burn on the right, track on the left.
Note how high the debris is on the gate indicating how high the water level gets.

Looking back you can see the stucture of the crossing.
Burn on the left, track on the right but very much washed out, really unused now,
hence the massive gates capable of coping with flood conditions are permanently left open.

This is looking back from a private garden. As you can see the bank on the right is lower
than the garden bank on the left which meant that in flood conditions the water floods to the right.
