I am the Chief Software Architect of the North-East Regional e-Science Centre (NEReSC) at the School of Computing Science, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

My interests in Computing Science are scattered amongst many fields; some of my most favourite being Parallelism, Distributed Systems, Grid Computing, Computer Networks, and Operating Systems.

Current research activities:

- Web/Grid Services.

- Core Grid Middleware: A core set of services for the Grid e-Science community.

- HiPPO: A visual, object-oriented programming language for high performance, parallel programming.

- NIP: runtime for distributed- and shared-memory multiprocessors using lazy task creation and object-based distributed shared memory. The newest version of NIP is implement fully in .NET managed code.
