Welcome to the BioSurf research group. We are interested in the physics and biology of biological surfaces including:

  • The interface between cancerous tumours and their microenvironment
  • The interface between circulating tumour cells and their site of colonisation
  • The role of surfaces in cancer metastasis
  • Surfaces in bio-lubrication
  • Extracellular matrix biomolecules and their surface mediated assembly/gelation
  • Biomimetic surface science – copying nature to develop new technologies
  • The role of surfaces in the origins of life on Earth

Our expertise combines surface science, cell biology, soft matter biophysics, and bioengineering. For any enquires please contact Daniel Frankel  at daniel.frankel@newcastle.ac.uk
