The following topics have been suggested by members

staff. However, you are not required to restrict your choice to
these
specific topics. If you have a general area of interest, you
should
consult the staff pages
and research interests to find someone who may be interested in your
topic
or area, and arrange a meeting with them.
This list is subject to ammendment and revision

“Management in the food supply chain particularly quality
assurance
issues.” Students selecting me as a supervisor should be aware that I
am
not available in July and therefore have to be organised before then so
that they can manage until I return in early August.
Dr. Mitchell Ness
- Consumer awareness of, and attitudes to, origin-labelled
products.
Qualitative and quantitative research to investigate consumer/public
awareness
of pdo/pgi-labelled products, understanding of pdo/pgi objectives,
attitudes
and perceptions to these objectives. (MRN and AJT).
- Modelling consumers’ preferences for a food product of your
choice.
A conjoint study of preferences, consumer segments and market share
simulation.
Would ideally suit a student who has completed QTM or is willing to do
some background reading in conjoint analysis.
- Consumer satisfaction, brand loyalty and purchase intentions for
a
product
or range of products of your choice. Analysis using structural
equation
modelling (SEM). Would suit a student who is computer numerate
and
is prepared to acquire skills in SEM using AMOS software.
- Consumer perceived risk and effectiveness of risk relievers
associated
with a product of your choice. A wide range of analytical
strategies
is possible. Ideally I would like to supervise a student who is
enthusiastic
about using structural equation modelling (SEM) using AMOS software.
- Dimensions of consumers’ perceptions and consumer segments for a
food
product
of your choice. Analytical method would use factor analysis and
cluster
analysis. Would ideally suit a student who has completed QTM or
is
willing to do some background reading, under my guidance, on these
topics.
- Brand positioning for a range of food products or
product/services (eg.
restaurants, fast food,). The aim of the research is to position
brands against competitors relative to brand features. The
analytical
method could employ multidimensional scaling or correspondence analysis.
