Introduction

My name is Holly Middleton-Spencer and I am a PhD student in Applied Mathematics at Newcastle University. My research focusses on Quantum Turbulence within Bose-Einstein condensates where I work on understanding the mathematics behind experimental observations.

Alongside Quantum Turbulence, I have a deep interest in the History of Mathematics – specifically ancient mathematics – and am on the EDI committee of the British Society of the History of Mathematics.

I am a mentor to younger PhD students and have been a mentor for undergraduates before. I am aware that I am a female in a highly male-dominated field. I am also aware that being an underrepresented minority within academia can have its difficulties. If you would like advice or an informal chat then feel free to reach out either via email or in person.
