Partial budgeting

Partial budgeting is an important farm management tool. It is used to assess the financial impact of changes to the farm business. Only those aspects of the business that are affected by the proposes change are included in the financial analysis, which involves a clear understanding of the interaction between each item in a farming system to be able to identify all the possible effects.

4

Profit and loss accounts

Students are presented with revenues and expenditures, opening and closing debtors and creditors, and valuations of live and deadstock at the beginning and end of the year. By following the examples presented in the lectures, students use this information to construct profit and loss accounts. Students are expected to be able to interpret and comment on these accounts.

5

Capital accounts

Students are given a profit and loss account and details about the financing of a farm business and are expected to complete a capital account. The students are expected to be able to interpret these accounts, inparticular to be able to assess the financial stability of the business based on its financial structure, cash flow and profit.
