Introduction

Dr. James Woon graduated from the National University of Malaysia with a PhD in Biochemistry. He studied for his BSc in Microbiology in the same university. Trained to be a biochemist, James is specialised in recombinant protein expression and enzyme kinetics.

Prior to his enrollment in NUMed Malaysia, he worked as a lecturer in HELP College of Arts and Technology for its Upper Iowa University degree program. James was the module leader for the first-year core subject – General Biological Sciences.

James’ current responsibilities are mainly teaching Biomedical Sciences degree students and also contributing to the personal tutoring of NUMed students.

He enjoys reading and writing articles of all sorts as his favourite pastimes.

B.Sc. (Microbiology), First-class honours – National University of Malaysia

Research Experience

During his PhD studies, James worked on the cloning, expression and characterisation of novel cellulases for efficient biomass conversion. He is familiar with standard molecular biology procedures, analytical chemistry techniques (TLC and HPLC) and biophysical analyses of cellulose (using X-RD and FT-IR).
