Security of the file system

You should not permit a file or a directory with write permission for members of your group or all other users, as this will hazard the security of your own files, and may provide a means of entry to the Unix file system that causes more widespread damage. You should check the file modes of all files and directories, including those files whose names begin with a dot.

If there is a file called .netrc in your home directory, its file mode should be set so that members of your group and all other users are allowed no access (not even read access).
