Binary Eutectic Systems
Often observed for two component systems
Three single phase regions, Liquid, ? and ??which are solid solutions
Based on the eutectic reaction L-?????which occurs at a temperature below the melting temperature of either component
The eutectic point is an invariant point
The solubility limit (i.e. the maximum amount of the other component which a phase based on the first component) will dissolve is maximum at the eutectic temperature
