Welding of Steel
Fusion welding is a major steel joining mechanism
A small amount of molten steel is introduced in the gap between two components and solidifies to form the bond
There are two major regions to the weld
- fusion zone - i.e. the parts of the steel that have melted and the filler material
- heat affected zone - i.e. the regions of the steel next to the weld which have undergone microstructural changes without melting
