Transition Welds
Welds made between two different materials with a filler which may be different again
Materials must be compatible and not form weak phases (intermetallics etc)
A sharp change in composition and properties must be avoided
- e.g. joining austenitic to ferritic stainless steel a sharp thermal expansion gradient must be avoided
Some dilution of the weld metal can occur
