Solid State Resistance Pressure Welding
Heating is produced by passing a current through the metals to be joined (Joule heating, depends on I2R)
In resistance butt welding the current passes across the joint
- the resistance at the interface is higher and this region heats most - contact resistance
- pressure is used to make the bond
- the interface region may melt - any liquid is forced out to form a flash by the pressure
