Friction Welding
Used for components with rotational symmetry (rods, tubes, etc.)
One component is held stationary whilst the second is placed in a chuck and rotated
Components are pressed together (typical contact pressure ~40MPa)
Frictional heating occurs
After a time the rotating member is brought rapidly to a stop whilst the axial force is increased (doubled)
