  1. Surface Requirements for Joining (Surface structure, preparation and selection requirements) 
  2. Solid State Joining Processes (Pressure welding, friction welding, explosive welding, ultrasonic welding, diffusion bonding, resistance welding)
  3. Brazing and Soldering (Filler materials and fluxes, heating methods, wettability, joint design) 
  4. Adhesive bonding (Types of adhesive, wettability, surface preparation, joint design) 
  5. Fusion welding fundamentals (Heat sources, the electric arc, methods of metal transfer, incomplete fusion, solidification of metals, gas-metal reactions, solubility of gases in metal melts, hydrogen cracking, weld decay, porosity) 
  6. Fusion welding processes (Oxyacetylene torch welding, Manual metal arc welding, MIG and TIG welding, submerged arc welding, electron beam and laser welding) 
  7. Responses of materials to welding (Structure of the welded joint, welding stresses and distortion, heat treatment of parent metals and welds, solidification cracking, reheat cracking) 
  8. Welding specific material classes (Plain carbon and carbon-manganese steels, low alloy steels, stainless steels, copper and copper alloys, nickel and nickel alloys, aluminium and aluminium alloys, dissimilar metals (transition welds)) 
  9. Design and Performance of welded structures (Joint design, performance of joints under static, dynamic and thermodynamic loading)
