Carburising Process Variants I
Fluidised bed carburising
- gas blown through a bed of particles at a sufficient rate to cause the particles to separate and fluidise
- high heat transfer and fuel efficiency
- faster than gas carburising
- carbon potential can be controlled but it is difficult to get great accuracy
- particles generally inert and do not come out with the components
- less washing necessary compared to salt bath process
