I am from Gödöllő, which is a town 30 kilometers east of the Hungarian capital, Budapest. Budapest is so close that a lot of people who live in Gödöllő actually work or study in Budapest. Gödöllő's main tourist attraction is The Royal Palace. Even though this palace was never owned by royals, it is called "royal" because Elizabeth, Queen of Hungary and Empress of Austria often vacationed here with or without her husband, Franz Joseph, the monarch of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. All this was back in the second half of the 19th century. Elizabeth was a legendary beauty and was quite modern for her time because she rebelled against the strict rules of the Habsburg court. In certain respects, one might see a similarity between her and Princess Diana. At the age of 60, Elizabeth was assassinated by an Italian anarchist for the simple reason that she was a royal and she happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. godollosign.jpg
