Two consonants
Two vowels+ one consonant
Add -ed help- helped
rain- rained

Consonant +y

Vowel+ y

Change y to i, then add -ed

Don't change y to i , just add -ed

study - studied
cry - cried
play- played
One vowel + one consonant
(but NOT w or y)
If the verb has one syllable, double the consonant, then add –ed.
If the verb has two syllables, follow this:
- If the first syllable is stressed, don't double the consonant.
- If the second syllable is stressed, double the consonant.

tap - tapped
stop - stopped

visit- visited
offer- offered

prefer- preferred
admit- admitted
