Teaching

My teaching centers around the topics of psychopharmacology and affective disorders, for medical students, psychiatric trainees, general practitioners and psychiatrists.  I have spoken at many national and international meetings.  I lecture on courses run by the British Association of Psychopharmacology including the Affective Disorders component of the Certificate in Psychopharmacology and the Clinical Psychopharmacology Refresher Course for Consultant Psychiatrists.  I supervise a variety of students at B.S.c., M.Phil, M.Res, Ph.D. and M.D. levels.

I was involved in a project to provide high quality information to the lay public about depression via the internet. Specifically I co-ordinated the provision of material written by myself and other members of the Newcastle Affective Disorders Group to an internet company who provides health information (Netdoctor.co.uk).  I have also published several book chapters and reviews related to subjects I teach on including psychopharmacology [15, 27, 29, 35, 36, 37]; the pathophysiology of affective disorders [9, 10, 29, 33]; the management of bipolar disorder [30, 31, 32] and clinical trials methodology [34].

I was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education by the University of Newcastle in 1996.
