Dr. Jun Wu has joined Newcastle University as a Visiting Researcher

Dr. Jun Wu is an Associate Professor in Bridge Engineering at Chang’an University, China. She visited Newcastle University as a visiting scholar hostd by Dr. Haoyu Huang. Dr. Wu primarily focuses on transportation resilience, with specific emphasis on vehicle-bridge interaction analysis, bridge traffic flow simulation, and reliability assessment of bridges under traffic loads. She has integrated the cellular automaton traffic flow model with vehicle-bridge interaction analysis, enabling a more detailed characterization of bridge dynamic responses under vehicular flow. This approach significantly facilitates the fatigue evaluation of bridge components under random traffic loading, providing critical insights for structural health monitoring and maintenance strategies.

Excited to attend World Conference on Timber Engineering 2025 and present my research:
“Acceptability Criteria of Timber Floor Vibration: A Subjective Evaluation”

Co-authored with Prof. Wen-Shao Chang (University of Lincoln), this study explores how people perceive timber floor vibrations in different settings, using Virtual Reality and surveys in different countries.

We found that cultural background and building function strongly affect comfort levels, so suggesting current standards need refining to support wider timber adoption.
