We have developed a fully automated technique for segmenting hippocampi from T1 weighted brain images. It uses SPM5 to segment the brains into grey and white matter, and spatially normalise the brain to standard MNI space. We take this transformation and apply its inverse to transform a pair of hippocampi regions from MNI space to the subjects brain and then identify the grey matter within that region.
