Experience in programming, including Fortran, Visual Basic 6.0, JAVA, TCl/Tk, HTML & XHTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript.  I am also experienced in the use of data analysis and visualisation software packages IDL and NCL.

Familiarity with Windows NT/98 and UNIX operating systems.

Proficiency in the full suite of MS Office products.

Completion of teaching skills course which helped develop the skills required to communicate ideas andknowledge to students, and also to assess learning.  These skills have been put into practice through demonstrating on an undergraduate “Mathematics for Environmental Scientists” course and assisting with MSc FORTRAN training.

I was a participant in an “Environment Question Time” organised by North Tyneside Council for local schools, responding to students’ questions and debate on the issues related to climate change. This event was recorded and distributed on DVD as a teaching resource for local schools.

I have participated in two British Council workshops on Climate Change (St. Petersburg) and Climate Change and Health (Switzerland). The latter included participation in a number of “Café Scientifiqués” to present and discuss our work in an open forum with the general public.

INTERESTS Top

Running, having completed the Great North Run on five occasions

Photography.

Playing snooker and attending professional tournaments.

Politics, having been actively involved in the last two General Election campaigns, and numerous local election campaigns.  I have also been on the General and Executive Committees of my local party.
