Past-times that I try to find enough time for...

Photography

I've enjoyed photography for years (it's quite similar to microscopy in my mind). My father got me into photography at a very early age. I've had SLRs since I was about 11, and stuck with cheap ones since that was all I could afford! Since then I've had one Ricoh and two Zeniths, and still have my last Zenith X10. Once digital SLRs came down in price to be affordable, I splashed out on a cheapish one. They have made digital photography almost as good as traditional film, with the added bonuses of ease of viewing, editing and distribution.

I post a lot of my work on Flickr. I generally like fairly traditional stuff, such as plants and sunsets, as well as macro photography.

Woodwork/ Carpentry

Woodwork is soemthing I enjoy, especially in winter when I don't have so many outdoor activities to occupy my spare time. I particularly enjoy working with oak- it's relatively local and hard enough to make working easy yet not too hard to be impossible to cut by hand. I'm slowly replacing bought furniture in the house. Again, my Flickr page has images of some of these.

Other activities

In my spare time I enjoy working on an allotment, where I grow a huge variety of vegetables. It's very rewarding, but it does tend to eat into free time for other activities, especially in spring.
When I have time, I enjoy walking and swimming at weekends, and camping for holidays.
I make my own homebrew wines, especially in autumn, with the crops of apples, pears and elderberries. I also make beer, usually IPA type styles, with a few darker ones (more like an 80/-) now and again.
If I had the time, I would enjoy my motorbike more, but these days it only tends to get used for commuting, and the odd short ride on a weekend.
