Vacuum carburising
- components heated to carburising temperature under low pressure (0.1Torr)
- furnace backfilled with carburising atmosphere to a fixed pressure
- treatment rate depends on pressure
- Oxidation is restricted
- problems with lack of uniformity and soot formation
