Laboratory Spaces

KGVI B.01: Living Room Lab

This room is setup with soft seating, coffee tables, and a child-sized set of table and chairs. You can take any of the recording devices from our stock to use in here, we also have a omni-directional microphone that can be set up in the room. We are in the process of outfitting this room to be homey, comfortable, and accessible to children, adults, families, and people who require carers to accompany them to the lab.

The room is outfitted with a wide-angle camera, a camera with 5× optical zoom, and a microphone (CCTV) for group and interactional observation within the room. Recordings are fully secure and stored on an internal server.

KGVI B.01A: Observation Booth

We are also currently setting up a head-turn preference arrangement in the Observation Booth within the Living Room Lab. Once complete, it will contain a camera, a monitor and speakers controlled by a computer station outside of the booth.

KGVI B.02: Computer Cluster/Collaboration Suite

This space is currently unavailable.

We are working to furnish it with computer workstations and a meeting table so that it can be used for research group meetings, analysis that requires specialist software or substantial computing power, and other collaborative events.

KGVI B.03: Phonetics Lab

The Phonetics Lab contains three recording booths:

  • Booth 1: A large highly sound-attenuated, double-walled booth for high-quality phonetic recordings, group recordings, articulatory recordings, and other interactions that involve multiple people.
  • Booth 2 and Booth 3: Each is a small, single-occupancy sound attenuated booth for phonetic recordings and perception/comprehension experiments. Although they are not currently networked, they can be linked for participants to interact while isolated in each booth.

KGVI 2.12: Eye-tracking Lab

The Eye-Tracking Lab contains an SR Research Portable Duo EyeLink eye-tracker (display computer and host computer). We have access to the proprietary SR Research software (Experiment Builder and Data Viewer), and aim to support other software such as PsychoPy or OpenSesame in the future.
